Phobias
Phobias are learned responses to a peceived threat or trigger from a negative event that we have experienced usually during childhood. This feeling of intense fear when we come into contact with whatever produced that response from spiders to needles is our way of avoiding danger. We may rationalise the fear and fail to understand why we react in this way when we know deep down that this phobic response is unnecessary.
How to overcome phobias!
The good news is that because all phobias are learned responses usually from events we have experienced in the past we can also unlearn them. It is important to understand that these responses are not hardwired and can be easily changed. The most common phobias are those such as fear of spiders and fear of flying, which can be easily cured using hypnotherapy techniques to help learn new behaviour patterns i.e. a calm reaction rather than a panic reaction. You can stop the discomfort and permanently overcome these challenges. What many clients have found so amazing is how quickly their phobias can disappear.
In overcoming your fears, changes must primarily occur at a deeper neurological level, within your subconscious mind. You will learn how to use methods such as self hypnosis, NLP , emotional freedom technique and desensitisation to change your response to these fears. When you do this, your mind will not be able to recreate the past panic you have suffered with, as the fears are simply gone from your way of thinking. It is not always necessary to understand how the phobia came about in the first place and simply having the motivation to develop a new response using effective therapeutic techniques will result in permanent change. I have helped many clients to successfully overcome a phobic response from social anxiety disorder to phobias of flying and enclosed spaces. For more information visit the case studies page.
